Terms of Service

Effective: April 2026

1. What this is

Athena is a research paper library built by Xavier Rojas. It is currently in early access — features are actively being developed and things may change.

2. Your account

You need an account to use Athena. You are responsible for keeping your password secure. One account per person.

3. Your data

  • Your papers, metadata, and library data belong to you.
  • Your data is stored in an isolated per-user database.
  • You can export your library as BibTeX at any time.
  • You can delete your account and all associated data from the Settings page.

4. What you upload

  • Only upload PDFs you have the right to store (your own copies, open access, preprints, etc.).
  • Do not upload malware, executable files disguised as PDFs, or illegal content.
  • Uploaded files are scanned for safety and stored on our server for processing.

5. AI processing

Athena uses AI to analyze papers — extracting metadata, generating tags, and building embeddings. Paper text is sent to our AI processing pipeline but is not shared with other users or used to train models.

6. Acceptable use

Use Athena for research and personal paper management. Do not attempt to abuse the service, overload the server, or access other users' data.

7. Early access

Athena is provided as-is during early access. The service is free for early adopters. Pricing will be announced before any charges begin — you will not be charged without notice.

8. Availability

We aim to keep Athena available but make no uptime guarantees during early access. Back up important data using the export features.

9. Changes

These terms may be updated as the product evolves. Significant changes will be communicated to registered users.
